Crown and Bridge Preparation – Same Day Placement
Appointment 1 – Preparing the Tooth/Teeth
Between appointments, use caution eating or drinking on the side where the work was done. Avoiding using this side of your mouth is advisable.
This area will be numb initially but could become temperature and chewing sensitive as the anesthetic wears off.
Do not worry about brushing this area before coming back to have the crown/bridge seated, as the teeth will be cleaned before the crown/bridge is placed.
Some post-operative discomfort is normal, but should be manageable with Ibuprofen or Tylenol.
Appointment 2 – Placement of the Crown/Bridge
For the first couple days, some post-operative discomfort is normal. Teeth may be sensitive to temperatures or chewing for the first few days, but the new crown/bridge should feel like it “fits” — like it is the right size for biting.
If your gums are sore, warm salt water rinses can help for the first couple of days. Ibuprofen and Tylenol as needed can also help with discomfort.
If discomfort with chewing or sensitivity to temperatures continues longer than 1 week, or if at any time the bite/fit does not feel right, please call our office so it can be evaluated.
